Some of you guys may already be aware, but for those who are not, over the weekend, I wound up on the front page of Reddit with my IAMA about being Asian with Albinism.
You can accuse me of being full of shit, but I honestly, HONESTLY, did not expect to wind up on the front page with 1600+ upvotes!! Fucking crazy. Unless I’m approached about it, my Albinism is not something that I open up about and discuss too often, but I’m really glad to see that there was so much interest over the topic! Albinism is really not a subject that winds up in the spotlight too often, so I really appreciate the fact that people were willing to take some time out of their day and read up about it. Even the trolls and neckbeards who visited my thread, along with all the other creepy comments were appreciated!
Those who actually know me IRL will likely attest to the fact that I can be a pretty bizarre individual, which is fine. But I’ve always convinced myself that I am not a good or beautiful person. So having LITERALLY hundreds of comments telling me exactly that, well, it’s a pretty fucking huge ego boost. I really don’t think I’ve done anything worthwhile to deserve such kind words that people are sending out to me, but it really does motivate me to be the best person that I can be.
If you’ve been following me on tumblr for a while, you may or not recall this post from last year about my chronic anxiety and depression, which is something I’m still dealing with and getting lots of therapy for. I would NEVER have thought about putting myself out there like this a year ago, and some of the nasty ass comments people have been leaving would have totally brought me down. It’s really interesting seeing how much I’ve grown in such a short span of time.
So I guess, ultimately, I want to say thank you to all of you, whether you just found me through Reddit, have been following my blogs, or if we’re friends or acquaintances in real life. Thanks for caring. Thanks for reaching out to me. Thanks for taking an interest in me and my story. I’d love to hear yours. Feel free to contact me. My e-mail address is provided on the side bar of this blog.
I hope all of you are having a beautiful day. <3XO,Elaine
